Dalya Gayle
Abu Dhabi

My passport is a date, time and place of where I was born. A third cultural student is what they call me. American by birth. Fourth generation American on my maternal side. A first generation American on my paternal side. Lived almost half my life in the United Arab Emirates as an expat attending an American Preparatory School. However, I feel that I belong to a global tribe rather than a culturally defined one. I am closer to people who have the same experiences as I do, regardless of nationality or cultural background. My experiences have given me an open mind to how I see the world. I hope you enjoy my experiences and my journeys as much as I have.

    STAY UPDATED WITH MY JOURNEY

Having been an expat student since 2011- I can say that my life has been enriched through my international friendships. It has given me that extra dimension to make myself more open minded and accepting.  I pushed myself to learn more about the people in the amazing places I have been through the school’s service trips and travels with my family. While I have learned a lot about myself, I have learned so much more about others. You don’t really question your own culture until faced with a new environment that you visit or must live in. You may bring your culture to share with you, but you must make adjustments to fit into another.

I hope you enjoy seeing the journeys and friendships I have made thus far in my short life.  The world is an amazing place … you just need to open your eyes and mind.  It is then and only then your life truly begins.
